Consistency Is The Key To Your Fitness Success

Consistency and adherence are the keys to your fitness success and results in the gym.

We all have lifestyle challenges that go on - Work and family commitments, Covid and winter blues can make turning up at the gym regularly a challenge!

Consistency is key

Building consistency into your strength exercise routine will give you progressing improvements.

However, the best results are gained from maintaining a consistent routine say Lyn who is a shining example of what you can achieve through a consistent approach.

Lyn trained online through all the lockdowns and since we have been back in person, she is consistently in her sessions every week, and progressively improving.

The sumo deadlift personal best (57.5kg x 2) in the video is testament to her effort and adherence to her program.

Tips to build consistency into your approach to the gym

Training - Ideally, you need to do 2-5 sessions a week to get the right adaptations to exercise and improve your technique. Lock in regular times each week as you would schedule an appointment. This will help ensure you have routine built into your calendar! This also means that your trainer knows when you are coming so they can also hold you accountable for your times.

Coming back to Training - If you have had some time away either on holiday on because of illness, it is important to get back into your exercise routine as soon as possible.

Returning to exercise post COVID - if your energy levels are low as we understand they may be, speak with your Trainer and ask them to adjust your plan so you can still maintain consistency. You may focus more on mobility and light exercises until you are fully recovered. The idea is to have you back in your routine and moving again.

If you are going away on a holiday, we suggest booking session times ready for your return from holiday, so you can just slip straight back into the routine and pick up from where you left off.

Nutrition - Eating good quality food and the right quantities that will provide you energy enough to be consistent with exercise. It may also mean planning meals / shopping in advance so you don't have to resort to ordering takeaway. For further information on this, please contact our Nutrition Coach Kris.

Remember, sound nutrition is a key factor to good health and wellness.

Rest and Recovery - Including rest days, getting quality 8 hours of sleep. Ensuring your stress levels are at a manageable level; and

Do all of the above for an extended period of time (12 months+) - The saying "Rome wasn't built in a day" rings especially true in the gym. It takes time to get fitter and stronger and form new habits and routines! No one became an overnight success.

At Healthy Fit we are focused on your long-term success. Our Coaches will plan your programs and progression and ensure you have the accountability with the aim of keeping you training consistently over the long term!
