Enjoy The Festive Season And Maintain Your Fitness Results

It's that time again. Christmas is upon us... parties, food, alcohol, and festivities.

I guess the question is’if you've been training all year round to get yourself in shape, how do you maintain your fitness results during the craziness of Christmas?

Here are a couple of ways you can survive and still maintain all the hard work you put in to your health and fitness over the year.

Firstly - Don’t Panic!

Your gains won't run away that quickly. It's most of the time that counts. You have probably heard of the 80/20 rule. It’s what you do 80% of the time that makes the difference, rather than hiccups of 20% of the time. If you've been great at nutrition and training , your results will hang around long enough to survive a week or two of relaxing and enjoying yourself.

Secondly - Relax and Enjoy Yourself a Little

Rest and relaxation are good for your body and mind! Think of it like taking a de-load week - a week where you go lighter and do less volume to allow the body to recover from all the training you have been doing. A few days will probably mean you feel fresher and ready to train harder on your return!

Even our trainers celebrate!

Everyone deserves to relax. In fact, relaxation is essential for your body and mind.

Three simple things to get you through the festive season

1. Everything in Moderation

Do everything with a level of moderation and enjoyment. Enjoying yourself doesn't necessarily mean getting hammered and eating to the point of over-indulgence and feeling overly satisfied. You’ll probably have just as much fun and still stay happy in the knowledge you didn’t blow out all your hard work .

In addition, if you are eating a particular way, keep doing it all the days except the main ones. There is no reason to change it if you aren’t at a party or event.

2. Maintain Your Activity Levels

a. Continue To Train - If you’re not going away, continue to work out! Book yourself into a semi private personal training session or a gym visit! We’re open, so there is no need to disrupt your training routine. If you are off work, this may even be the opportunity to increase your training load.

b. Online Semi Private Personal Training - If you’re going away, and don’t want to interrupt your training routine, try one of our online training sessions. No need to worry about having or not having equipment, we are skilled enough in creating you a suitable online program – with or without equipment. (We did it throughout the many never ending Melbourne lockdowns in 2020/2021, and continue to do so for our interstate, international and those who prefer to train at home clients).

cIncidental Exercise - Walking, cycling, swimming, kids’ games, are all great ways to keep active if you are away from the gym. Keep moving!

d. Body Weight Exercises - There is also a plethora of bodyweight exercises that are effective and can be done anywhere, anytime (squats, lunges, push ups etc.)

3. Plan Your Return To The Gym

If you haven’t already, speak with your personal trainer and make sure your regular sessions are booked and ready to go for your return from holidays.

Ensuring you have regular sessions booked for the New Year allows us to continue supporting you with your fitness and wellness and keep you accountable with your training.

Prebooked session ensures that you resume your routine once the festivities and holidays are done.

Remember consistency over an extended period will get the best results. So, plan for your success in 2023.

Just Remember: You Are Going To Make It!

Every Healthy Fit client this year has put in exceptional hard work and effort towards their goals and investing energy into their fitness and wellness post the challenges of lockdown.

So, enjoy yourself and any time off you may have. Keep it simple with your foo, keep alcohol intake to a minimum, and maintain your activity levels.

We look forward to seeing you back in the gym for a year of further success in 2023!
